Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the provider of the Play Chord app (“we” or “us”) handles your information in the app (“the app”) and on the website playchord.com.
1. Your notes and recordings stay with you
The notes (chord sheets), playlists, recordings of your playing, and settings you create in the app are saved only in the places below. They are never sent to our servers, and we cannot see what’s in them.
- On your device
- In your iCloud Drive (your own storage provided by Apple), if iCloud Drive is turned on for your iPhone or iPad
- In the folder you choose, if you choose a folder for your notes on Android
The microphone is used only when you start recording. The audio you record is saved as files in the places above.
2. Information we receive
To fix and improve the app, and to show ads, the app uses the services below. The following information is sent through them.
Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics by Google)
The kinds and numbers of actions you take, such as which screens you open and which features you use (for example, opening a note, pressing play, or stopping a recording), an identifier used only within the app, and your device model, OS, language, region, and app version. Song titles, artist names, lyrics, chords, playlist names, and search words are not sent (for searches, only the number of characters and the number of results are sent).
Error reports (Sentry, and Firebase Crashlytics by Google)
When the app crashes or an error occurs, the error, the steps that led up to it, and your device model, OS, and app version are sent. File locations and names are masked in these reports, and song titles, artist names, and playlist names are not sent. If moving your data from an older version of the app fails, the shape of the data (such as the number of items and the types of values) may be sent so we can find the cause. Even then, the contents, such as titles, lyrics, and chords, are not sent.
Ads (Google AdMob)
The app is free and shows ads. To show them, information such as your device details, IP address, and records of ads shown and tapped is sent to Google. The app asks AdMob to treat its ad requests as child-directed, so ads based on your interests (personalized ads) are not shown. The app also does not track you across apps and websites owned by other companies.
For how each service handles information, see their privacy policies:
- Google Privacy Policy (Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, AdMob)
- Privacy and Security in Firebase

3. How the information is used
The information received is used only to find and fix problems, to learn which features are used and which pages are viewed so the app and this website can be improved, and to show ads.
4. Sharing
The information received is not shared with anyone other than the providers of the services above, except when required by law. These services may process information outside Japan, including in the United States.
5. How long information is kept
The information received is deleted according to each service’s retention period.
6. Your choices
- You can turn off microphone access at any time in your device’s settings (you won’t be able to record while it’s off).
- You can choose whether to use iCloud Drive in your device’s iCloud settings.
- You can delete your notes and recordings at any time in the app or in your files app.
- You can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device’s settings.
7. This website
playchord.com uses Google Analytics to learn how the pages are viewed so they can be improved. The pages you view, the links you tap (such as links to the stores and the language switch), your approximate region, and your device and browser types are sent to Google. Information that directly identifies you, such as your name or email address, is not collected.
Google Analytics uses cookies. For visits from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, it is set not to use cookies. If you don’t want to be measured, use the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or block cookies in your browser. For how Google handles this information, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
In addition, a cookie is used to remember your language when you switch it. To deliver the pages, the hosting service (Vercel) temporarily keeps access logs, such as IP addresses and browser types.
8. Children’s privacy
The app is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and become aware that your child’s information has been sent, please contact us below.
9. Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page and takes effect when posted. Important changes will be announced in the app or on this website.
10. Contact
If you have questions about this policy, or would like to request access to the information we hold about you, please contact us on X (@playchord_app).
Our name and address will be disclosed without delay upon request through the contact above.
